The Portuguese Society of Ophthalmology (SPO) is often asked to publicize events or the participation of its members in scientific or other training activities. It is therefore necessary to create clear rules to be used in a uniform manner when evaluating these advertising requests. The SPO board is responsible for assessing advertising requests according to well-established criteria, which are explained below:
1. Advertising will essentially be of a scientific nature and of recognized interest to the continuing education of ophthalmologists. Non-scientific events may be advertised when they add value to the SPO and its members in the humanitarian, social support, entrepreneurial, artistic, cultural or intellectual fields.
2. Scientific events to be advertised or in which members participate must be organized by one (or more) public and/or private ophthalmology service(s), university bodies, institutions and foundations in the health sector.
3. To formalize the request for publicity, you must fill in a request addressed to SPO's Board of Directors, through the digital form provided at the end of this page.
4. It is the sole responsibility of the person requesting the advertisement to confirm that the images and content comply with the GDPR.
5. Failure to fully comply with the provisions of the aforementioned points shall lead to the rejection of the application for publicity evaluation.
6. It is up to the SPO Board of Directors to decide whether or not to publicize scientific events and to choose the channel(s) to be used (newsletter, social networks, SPO website, etc.), according to the scientific interest of the event, its relevance and topicality, equal opportunities between the various specific Sections of the SPO, the scientific programming of the SPO and other entities with which it has partnerships, as well as the existence of possible conflicts of interest for members. (Reworded for greater clarity and balance in the decision.)
7. It is also up to the board of directors of the SPO to decide whether or not to advertise non-scientific events in a holistic view of its activity, whenever the events constitute an added value for the SPO or its members in the areas already mentioned in point 2.
8. The Board shall take a decision within 15 days.
