Multifocal and Extended Depth-of-Focus IntraocularLenses in 2020

We chose this article because it systematizes the so-called premium lenses, a growing group (at least 70!) with overlapping properties. It organises lenses according to the optical principle underlying their design (refractive, diffractive, accommodating and small aperture) and according to the result they provide (monofocal, extended focus and multifocal). The article also highlights the novelty of the year, the "enhanced monofocal/monofocal plus" lenses, such as Vivity from Alcon, Eyhance from Johnson & Johnson and Isopure, from Physiol. This new generation of lenses will certainly continue to grow and accompany us during the year 2021 with more models and more clinical results. here.

Intraocular lens (IOL) implantation in the absence of capsular support: Scleral-fixed versus Retropupillary iris-claw IOLs

The aging population and the high prevalence of pseudoexfoliation continue to make the absence/instability of capsular support in pseudophakic and aphakic patients a frequent problem and more or less transversal to all services/surgeons. This article makes a systematic review of 87 publications with more than 5,000 eyes and shows that results are overlapping between scleral suspension and retropupillary fixation lenses, although it mentions the easier technique with iris-fixated lenses. Although not a surprising conclusion, it is an interesting review and finally brings some level of evidence to a discussion that has been frequent in recent years. Article available here.
