In this episode 16 of OftalmoGPS, we shine a light on one of the most iconic imaging techniques in ophthalmology—fluorescein angiography.

To guide us on this journey, we have the expertise of Dr. Maria João Furtado, an ophthalmologist at ULS Santo António, who shares with us her practical insight into the clinical applications of fluorescein angiography. Through the images revealed by fluorescein, we decode perfusion patterns, identify areas of leakage, and uncover details invisible to other tests.

In the InFocus segment, we revisit the article “Pachychoroid disease: review and update” (Eye, 2025 Apr;39(5):819-834), a comprehensive review of the spectrum of pachychoroid diseases. The study highlights the role of choroidal thickness and hyperpermeability in these pathologies and discusses how fluorescein angiography and ICG remain fundamental to understanding vascular behavior and guiding new therapeutic approaches. https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC11933466/pdf/41433_2024_Article_3253.pdf
