Joint communiqué of the SPO and the Physicians Order' Ophthalmology College

JOINT COMMUNIQUÉ

PORTUGUESE OPHTHALMOLOGICAL SOCIETY

COLLEGE OF THE SPECIALITY OF OPHTHALMOLOGY OF THE PHYSICIANS' ORDER

The Portuguese Society of Ophthalmology (SPO) and the College of the Speciality of Ophthalmology of the Portuguese Institute of Ophthalmology (Physicians Order) (CEOOM) received with concern the new table of ADSE, since it is implying postponements of interventions, restrictions with technologies, drugs and medical devices

Recognising the need to ensure the financial sustainability of ADSE in the long term - and the effort that has been made in this direction by its management - and highlighting the imperative need to ensure the best interests of ADSE beneficiaries, allowing them to continue to have access to medical care with levels of excellence the SPO and the College of Ophthalmology of the Portuguese Medical Association cannot, however, fail to point out that cancellations and difficulties severely condition the access of beneficiaries to medical care that they need, suggesting the introduction of alterations that allow for the non-existence of restrictions in more recent technologies and drugs enabling the best care for patients.

Thus, the Portuguese Society of Ophthalmology and the College of Ophthalmology of the Portuguese Medical Association - who have the right skills and people to advise and help evaluate the complexity of medical acts and their associated costs - have decided to make a proposal to improve the price table of ADSE in the area of Ophthalmology. express their total availability to collaborate in a process of dialogue that allows an improvement, in the superior interest of the beneficiaries, the ADSE table in the area of Ophthalmology, welcoming in advance the expressed openness of ADSE to be able to correct, with celerity, some restrictions of the table.
